Description
English: Sarasvati is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts and learning.
  • She is also found in Jainism. In Japan, she is called Benzaiten and is the goddess of knowledge, music and everything that flows over time.
  • This artwork was produced between 1800 and 1805 CE, near Pune Maharashtra. It is an example of the Deccani school of painting. It is now preserved at the British Library as item 1940,0713,0.226
  • The British Library curator's summary states, "Sarasvatī seated on her peacock mount, accompanied by two female attendants.The painting is framed by a red and gold border, which has been adhered to the paper."
  • Size of the original painting: 21.45 cm x 35.3 cm
  • This is a photograph of a 2D artwork produced before 1805 CE. The PD-Art guidelines of wikimedia commons applied. Any rights I have as a photographer, I herewith donate it to public domain through wikimedia commons.
